Rules and Responsibilities for Rental Car Drivers
- You are responsible for all traffic fines incurred during the rental period. Thrifty UAE will charge these to your card on file plus an administration fee.
- Accidents must be reported to the police (999) immediately. Do not move the vehicle before the police arrive and issue a report — the insurance claim requires it.
- As a tourist, you may only drive a rental car or a vehicle owned by a first-degree relative. You cannot drive a friend's privately owned car on your IDP.
- Return the vehicle with a full tank of fuel, or a refuelling surcharge applies.
- Vehicles must not be taken outside the UAE without prior written approval. Cross-border trips to Oman are sometimes permitted with the correct documentation — ask at booking.
